i wouldn't trade this {job} life for anything even if i do have drool dripping out of my mouth while playing with the boys!! no, i haven't ever fallen asleep while my boys are playing! nope, not me!
i want to share with all of you about elijah's k-3 promotion day program!!!
as you all read yesterday, i was a tad bit nervous about how things were going to go.
john daniel and i got there about 25 minutes early to get a good seat. we had been sitting down for maybe 3 minutes when i had a 'tap' on my shoulder. i turned around it was the director of the school. {i think all the blood drained my face} she said, "they need you in the back because e is having a hard time." in my mind, i'm thinking he has misbehaved or something along those lines. she explained to me that he was crying and wanting me.
we head up to elijah's room and the closer we get i can hear him crying! uh oh! he is in a separate room with his teacher, mrs pat {who we love}. mrs pat had asked the class to line up and get ready for the program and she said e had a meltdown. he started crying and asking for mommy. {i have to admit -- i love that he was asking for me :)} i try and calm him down and he isn't budging. after about 5 minutes i convince him to get in line with his class. once he is in line the crying starts again...this is when i began to sweat profusely!! i decide to take him out with me and sit in the back row until he can settle down. however, that didn't happen. by this time, i've handed john daniel off to my MIL {thank you jesus for her}. elijah is getting louder and louder and not calming down. so, i pick all 40 lbs. of him up and take him in to the foyer because people were starting to stare at us. as i am hiking him up on my hip, he says in a voice i haven't heard come from him before "there's my daddy, i want to see my daddy, why didn't he come see me." obviously, i am wondering what the heck he is talking about. lo and behold, there is a man that was sitting down and who also happened to be bald and e apparently assumed it was jim.
so, after explaining to him that that man isn't his daddy, i lost it!!! for a few minutes he and i were both crying. however, we both got it together and i convinced him to participate in the program and also bribed him with food and a toy. {don't judge me...i did what had to be done}. he agreed to go with his class and participate!! thank you jesus!!!
the program was great! elijah did amazingly well. his class has learned a great deal this past year. here are some of the highlights from his program:
reciting the 10 commandments
counting to 50
shapes song
counting to 10 & naming the colors in spanish
abc song
vowels sounds
several songs
needless to say, i was one proud mommy!!!
my firstborn is growing up way too fast!!
here are some pictures from the big day...

Adorable pictures!!!!
Oh, it is so hard on them, isn't it? We don't realize what a big deal they make out of it in their minds sometimes. I am glad it turned out okay!
Oh I love this story. It is very reminiscent of when my middle son was "graduating" from Pre-K -- except I wasn't feeling the stress of my husband being away.
God bless you for handling it all with such grace. I remember feeling like I had somehow failed because my guy wouldn't participate in the "graduation" procession. Oh what I would give to have that sweet baby hugging me so tight right now. He still hugs me goodnight, but he's in high school now, and doing just fine without clinging to mom.
It sounds so cliche, but time really does fly. It's refreshing to see a young mom like you who is enjoying the ride!
have a great day!
Awwww! It broke my heart a little bit!
He is SO handsome!
I had tears in my eyes as I read about the graduation. At times it seems that having a daddy away doesn't affect them so much, and then those emotions come out sometimes at the worst possible moment.
It's hard on a mom to be the only one there to handle it all and make the world a wonderful place for your boys. Praying that the time comes soon for your family to be reunited.
