make-up, hairspray & crowns

as far back as i can remember i have always LOVED watching pageants!!
i know some of you probably think that this is a waste of time or mindless or whatever (my hubby is one of these)!! but, your opinions don't sway me on this topic. i love, love, love watching them and i admit i have on occasion teared up before when they crown the winner! don't judge me!! HA! HA!

last night was no exception! miss usa 2009 was on and i was definitely going to watch. they always start the show with the 51 contestants parading around the stage and introducing themselves. obviously, i'm always pulling for the georgia contestant to make the top 15 (which last night she did)!! they then proceed to bring out the host and co-host of the pageant. they had a co-host from a t.v. show called 'my name is earl' which i have never watched. i don't think they will be using her services again though. she was making some 'strange' comments, flubbing her lines and even hit the host on the head with her microphone!! it was obviously planned...however, i think she hit him harder than he was expecting!!

now on to the reason i am even blogging about the miss usa pageant.
clearly, from the beginning of the competition miss california was a front runner! she had the highest scores in each individual competition! then it was time for final 5 contestants to be interviewed by the 'celebrity' judges and i use the word celebrity loosely for one particular judge (i'll get back to that in a minute). all of the questions had been political in nature. when it was miss california's turn to answer a question she picked 'celebrity' judge perez hilton, a celebrity blogger. this is his question to her:
(watch this video)

FIRST OF ALL, i was so proud of miss california's stance and that she didn't give what probably would have been a 'popular' answer!! believe it or not, she was the first-runner up!! i personally believe she would have won the title if it hadn't been for her 'un-popular' answer! i have done a little research on her and she is a christian and has been receiving support from people across the country. i am proud of miss california because she probably knew when she was giving her answer that she was 'handing the crown' over to one of her fellow contestants. in the end, she chose to stay true to her beliefs and i applaud that!!

and the winner is:

i know this post might have bored some of you..but, thank you for sticking it out with me!!
i am a girlie-girl at heart and love dressing up and wearing heels...just as long as it is not an everyday occurence!! :o)
have a great monday!!

I too, am such a girlie girl! I even competed in a pageant once in high school just to get extra credit from my high school English teacher, and it ended up taking me all the way to the National competition for that particular pageant program!
You could so totally see Perez shaking his head at her answer... not sure if he was shaking it because he (obviously) would have disagreed with her answer or if it was because (like you said) she just handed over the crown and he had wanted her to win!
Thanks for stopping by and checking me out... I've added you to my list to follow. Always love to find another Southern girl!

It is unfortunate that this has received at much backlash as it has. What is even worse is the backlash that has hit both Miss. Cali and Perez following the "controversy"
I personally feel the media has nothing better to do report right now (war? economy? anything?) and are making it into a big thing. The Pagent is going to stretch it as far as they can for publicity.
Honestly though, what bothers me?
How many christians are attacking, and badly attacking perez. I hate when christians show judgement through rude comments and immature retorts. It is *awesome* when we stand for what we believe in- provided we do not judge others and do harmful things to others in God's name. I think too many people are doing that right now. I honestly do not think that is what God would want us to do. Whether He wants gay marriage or not, I know he wants us to love, love, love up on one another.
Does that make sense? I got on a bit of a soapbox!!

I love watching the pageants too! Don't know why, cause I am the athletic girl? I don't get what the uproar is about her answer! I say more power to her! I was proud of what she said, however she could have done without the "no offense to anyone out there." Freedom of speech girl!
Love your blog!
